Christchurch-born Emily Corcoran will put on her "posh frock" and step onto the red carpet on Hollywood Boulevard on Friday to showcase the movie she toiled over for the last five years, she told NZPA. "It’s been a long old road." The movie, Sisterhood, features... more>

PRICES: A record proportion of people expect house prices to fall in the next 12 months, giving some confidence to house hunters, according to ASB’s quarterly survey. A net 55 percent of the 600 people surveyed in the three months ended July expected house prices to fall, the weakest reading by a long way since the survey began 12 years ago, ASB chief economist Nick Tuffley said. A net 34 percent in the previous survey expected a fall in house prices. In addition, those expecting... more>

WHITEBAIT: As the whitebait season begins scientists at the University of Canterbury have embarked on a four-year, $1.1 million study to find the key to producing more of the tiny fish. The study by Waikato University’s Management School found that the average pay differential between the public and private sectors is between 17 percent and 21 percent.
